Twin Galaxies International Announces Twin Galaxies Video Game Festival

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Landmark video game event to feature Twin Galaxies World Championships, celebrity appearances, video game documentaries, trading card expo and more in celebration of Twin Galaxies’ 30th anniversary.

It’s been 30 years since the Twin Galaxies Arcade first opened on Main Street in Ottumwa on Nov.10, 1981. In the decades since, Walter Day’s iconic arcade has evolved beyond its modest origins to become the “official scorekeeper for the world of video game & pinball playing”, vested with the authority to verify “official” world record high-scores and crown new world champions.

To celebrate its 30th Anniversary, Twin Galaxies invites gamers and members of the gaming industry to attend its Twin Galaxies Video Game Festival:

Where: The spacious Bridgeview Center in Ottumwa, Iowa
When: November 11-12, 2011

‘King of Chinatown’ Screening at PAX East

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

King of Chinatown is having the first screening of 2011 at PAX East, Saturday, March 12, at 9:30 p.m. at the Naga Theatre in the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

“King of Chinatown” documents the two year journey of professional video game player Justin Wong as he, along with his manager, TriForce, attempt to make a career of gaming in the competitive Street Fighter 4 scene. As Justin begins to move through the ranks, both good friends and past rivals step up in an attempt to take his spot. Will the pressure to make it to the top prove to be too much for Justin, TriForce and their company, Empire Arcadia? If you think you know the whole story, “King of Chinatown” will take you behind the scenes and reveal the truth of what happened between Justin and “The Empire”. If you are new to this world, their story will capture your attention and open your eyes to a growing culture as you are guided through it via the real life of one of the scenes top players.

King of Chinatown has been screened only a few times at events, including the premiere event in New York City at the Anthology Film Archives, at Big Bang 2010 as part of the International Video Game Hall of Fame inaugural event, and at an event at Montclair State University. The movie has been submitted to a number of independent film festivals as well.

Jordan Levinson, producer/editor; Calvin Theobald, producer/director; Adrian Romero, cinematographer; and Illych O Reyes will be on hand to answer questions after the screening and during the event.

Operation: Christmas Kong–Total Donations Received

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

With the closing time for donations to be received having been set for 11:59 p.m. Dec. 27, I can safely say that we raised a total of approximately $850 (I say approximate due to the fees and me just throwing in money to the top to make it even.)  A pre-paid visa card will go out early next week in the amount of $250 due to some of the donations being e-checks from overseas and not clearing until the end of the month (and Due to New Years, all the post offices being closed, etc.)

Thank you to everyone who donated to this event and has encouraged us to try and do something similar next year (To be determined…)

Fundraising Deadlines et. al.

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Just so everyone knows, this is my current plans for donations.

We want to raise enough money to purchase the items no later than Dec. 22. The sooner we can purchase them the better. I will however, continue pushing and running the fundraiser through 11:59 p.m. CST, Dec. 27. This will allow folks to make cash donations to the family as well and gives time for folks who may be waiting for paychecks or cash Christmas gifts to donate that might not have been able to donate before now.

Any money over the amount needed to purchase the items will be put on a pre-paid Visa and sent to the family via certified mail.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Ask Kayhynn, Week 1

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

So after considering this idea for a few years on a couple different game sites I have worked for, I have finally decided to sit down and actually do this thing.  This is the first of what I hope will be a weekly feature called “Ask Kayhynn.”

Once a week I will answer up to five questions that have been submitted, either through e-mail or through various forums I visit and have a topic talking about this article on it.  All questions will be gaming related and can be about my personal gaming history, my take on games, why I play the games I do, WoW related questions, Ultima Online related questions, questions regarding any games I play or have played,  gaming trivia…whatever.  If I don’t have an answer to it, I’ll try to find one, or make up a really creative (and funny) answer despite not having a clue what you’re taking about in the question.
