Operation Christmas Kong: Help A Family In Need
Imagine losing everything you had in a fire. Imagine the Christmas tree, presents, keepsakes, mementos, clothes, gone a little more than a week before Christmas. Your five member family made it out of the home with their lives and only the clothes on their back. This is what happened to the Conley Family of Flint, Mich., this past weekend.
Their 4-year-old son, Rylee, lost his Nintendo 64 and Donkey Kong game in the fire, a game he absolutely loved playing with his family.
Seeing as it’s Christmas, those of us at the sites listed in this article want to reach out and help this family and provide them with a gift for their son. So our sites have teamed up in an effort to reach out to our readers during Christmas time to acquire the following items for the family before Christmas:
- Limited Edition Wii (The 25th Edition Red One)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii
- 3 Wiimote + Chuk bundles
- Wii Charge Station Quad
Our goal: To raise at minimum $500 before Dec. 22 to purchase and deliver these items before Christmas to this family.
Any money over the amount needed to purchase the items will be put on a pre-paid Visa and sent to the family via certified mail.
On this site, and some of the others, we will have a bar in the sidebar dedicated to how much has been raised. Once the fundraising is completed, we will provide proof of the articles purchased and shipped, and hopefully will receive pictures of the family receiving the Christmas gift.
Donating is easy. You do not need to have a PayPal account to donate. Simply have a debit or credit card that you wish to charge it to and PayPal will handle the transaction from there, safe and secure. You can choose from any of the preset donation buttons below to donate a specific amount, or choose the last option to type in the amount you wish to donate.
Any amount raised over the initial goal will be sent to the family, or additional presents will be bought to present to them.
Thank you for your support.

There are more important things in the world to donate money to, though this is a terrible thing to happen I would rather donate my money to help people in Africa get clean water which could save their life rather than buy a child a new Wii.
@Henry: I hope you self flagellate every purchase you ever make for yourself to compare it to the standard you set above.
It’s not JUST about the Wii or the kid, but the whole event and the whole family. It’s about donating money to a family who just lost everything. Material loss is not the only thing they’ll suffer from. Let’s cover the emotional loss with support and love. Money helps, but please keep the negatives to a minimum.
Donate clothes if money isn’t your thing. There’s an address in the other article listed.
@Henry: I believe the thing i keep hearing everywhere else all the time is how we, citizens of the United States, reach out to help those outside the U.S. all the time, but we do not help our own. Here we have a family that lost their home, all of their possessions except for each other.
They live in Michigan. They are now effectively homeless. Unfortunately due to the economic situation, they didn’t have fire insurance. They have nothing.
I’m sorry, Christmas is about the spirit of giving. It is better to give than to receive. You can donate YOUR money to whatever you want, but some of us want to help someone that just lost everything before Christmas. Their Christmas can either suck or be better. I’d rather they have a better Christmas.
so they loose their home and you give them a Wii? Should you not be putting it to repairs? what they even gna power it with…. burning a tree? more fire?
We aren’t staying out on the street. We have places to stay while we get a new house built. There’s no repairing ashes. The Wii isn’t for “them” it’s for Rylee who is going to be 4, 3 days after Christmas. The money for the Wii wouldn’t even have been donated if it weren’t going toward the game and he deserves to have Christmas still, the 500 what they’re using for the Wii doesn’t even cover the lost Christmas presents from the fire, so why would it be a big deal? It’s not, it’s great and we really appreciate it. These people are amazing, and you can’t tell any of us otherwise. The rude comments are unnecessary.
I hope you rude people I hope you never go through this because what goes around comes around. There’s no promise that it won’t happen to you.
Genaca, our thoughts and prayers go out to you guys. We’ll keep spreading the word until we can make the family Christmas better!
Henry, you’re missing the entire point of this, and if people wish to donate their money to help this family, good for them! It’s their money to donate, not yours. It’s also possible to choose more than one cause to support, either with time or donations.
I know how devastated my child would be to lose everything he’s ever known, and I think it’s lovely and wonderful people will come together to help someone just for the joy of doing it. A few years ago my family and I lost nearly everything, and I’m more than happy to be able now to help someone else a little now that I can.
@Adam:
Your reading comprehension skills fail to amaze me. You read part of it and not all of it. We’re making his Christmas better. Every amount raised OVER the $500 we received to purchase the gifts for a boy who isn’t even 4 yet is going to go to the family, to help them rebuild.
Yes, they need money to repair, but a kid also needs a Christmas. Which we are going to help give to him.
The rude comments arent’ needed or wanted. If you had a kid and you lost everything, including their Christmas presents, you would be thankful for someone helping you out at Christmas. Think about it from the point of view of a parent.
We’ll be making our donation as soon as my paycheck hits tomorrow :)
I agree with Kayhynn and think people like Adam and Henry are like flies in the ointment. We don’t care what you think and we are focusing on the good and positive feedback. There are more of us than of you! If you don’t have anything good to say about it, then go someplace else to complain. Go to Africa! I bet you don’t even care about any other causes either. I’m happy that I donated because we are making their Christmas that much brighter and giving them comfort.
I won’t be saving the world or the starving children of Africa with my small donation, but at least I’m contributing to something. Merry Christmas! :)
Henry & Adam, I hope you know what CARMA is!! People like you are why the United States is struggling. If your so concerned about other counties then go there. I know this family very well and I know that they would do the same for a family in their situation. How would you feel if you lost EVERYTHING? Could you imagine waking up everyday not knowing where your going to be the next. I know that this family, is not one of them families that just takes advantage of people and that at this difficult time they APPRECIATE everything that is given. They like many Michigan families have struggled the past few years because of our economy, and let me tell you in case you don’t realize, our economy is like it is because all our jobs are being given to OTHER COUNTRIES!! So when are we going to start helping our own!!! I wouldn’t wish something like this to happen to my worst enemy, and for you to make these comments just shows what kind of people you really are. But its ok, because there are enough people that actually do care and are willing to help. TO THE FAMILY, MY OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME!! AND WE WILL HELP IN ANY WAY WE CAN TO HELP YOU GET BACK ON YOUR FEET! LOVE YOU GUYS!!
Genaca Conley wrote: I forgot to share this : On Tuesday Rylee and Sarena got to go shopping with some firemen who put out the fire, and the men helped them pick out things they wanted to buy, well Rylee decided on a saxophone because that’s what Tiny Kong from his DK game plays… Thought it was funny :) Thanks for everything guys, he’s going to love it, this is so great.
That is freakin’ ADORABLE! I’ve got a two year old, can’t wait to watch him do stuff like that as he gets older. I really hope they have a great Christmas.
Yay, I’m so glad enough was raised!!! *does a Snoopy dance*
I am the mother of a 4 year old girl and I have been fortunate enough to watch her joy build towards Christmas, putting up the tree even shopping presents for her friends and making Christmas list to give to Santa.
To imagine now facing a Christmas where I no longer had a home, or any of my possessions or mementos from past years, let alone something to make Christmas a little special for my child …not even a Christmas tree…in short I would be devastated and would be so grateful to anyone who reached out and helped me.
I think that all though this charity drive is not WORLD changing it is WORLD changing for one little boy and his family and sometimes that is just as important. Sometimes we have to realize that although we can not help the world we can take the time and energy to help one person or one family, that to me is still a very noble cause.
Sure donate to as many charities as you can, I think that is something we all should do, if your lucky enough to be in a good financial state and living happy life then yes by all means help your fellow man as much as you can. BUT do not belittle the efforts of others because they have stopped and helped one family……at least they have helped and that is the MAIN thing here.
The donations are going towards a gift for a little boy, as any child who has had to go without will tell you. It is probably something that will touch his life forever. This is not only helping Riley to have a little joy Christmas morning, think about it this is a lesson to him and anyone else that knows him and now knows of this cause this is a lesson in giving and feeling compassion it is an embrace of the true Christmas spirit of spreading joy.
I hope you raise thousands and have been glad to help as much as I can, as have my gaming friends. Well done to Christmas Kong organizers. And to Riley and his family Merry Merry Christmas I hope that next year brings you joy and happiness.
